Hobbies & Interets

Hobbies & Interests

Listed below are a few of my extracurricular activities and interests.

Music

Music means so much to me.  Whether it is making it or listening to it.  I can read music and I played the flute from 7th grade to 12th.  I also participated in marching band all 4 years of high school.

I absolutely love listening to music.  Often I will play it while I workout, study, or complete work  I have a crazy ability to remember a song once I have heard it.  Many times I find myself just spitting out the artist, song title, and album the track was on (if I know it well enough).  One of my favorite musicians is Janis Joplin (as pictured).  Her songs have always spoken to me.  I listen to a bit of everything Hip-Hop, R&B, Rock, Blues, Country, and Pop.

Wrestling

Wrestling is something that I have always wanted to do.  Unfortunately the opportunity to do so in high school was not there.  Female wrestlers are still rare and groundbreaking.  In fall 2013, I joined the ECU club wrestling team.  I learned a lot during my time with the club.  Simply working hard is not enough.  I learned that despite what you think you still may have more to give.  It is that extra push that will make you better and build your tolerance.  Pain is only temporary, but the disappointment you have from not succeeding because you did not give as much as you could, is permanent.

I no longer wrestle with the club, but I am interested in the sport of wrestling.

History

History has always been a quiet passion of mine or at least until I start spouting random facts.  I am a firm believer that history repeats itself.  I also believe strongly in the saying, "In order to progress into future, you must know the past."

Many of the people who have inspired me have their own special places in history.  Pam Grier, Janis Joplin, Malcolm X, Ghandi, Natasha Kai, Bruce Lee, ect.  It is the fact that they wrote their own stories that they earned their places in the histories of their disciplines.  I hope one day to become a positive part of history in some way shape or form.

Video Games

I enjoy playing video games in my spare time as well.  My specialties are sports, simulation, and role playing games.  I grew up with video games and I love to play them with friends.  I was out of the loop when it came to the newer games due to my studies, but I am making a bit of a comeback.  While my skills are still not where I would like them to be, I am on X-box Live, my gamertag is: DevotedNine7
